Title: | “Cog Train in the Snow holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of the first paintings I created after a long break from art. While I dabbled here and there over the years, it’s only recently that painting has become a regular part of my life — at least once a week, often more!
The inspiration for this piece came from the famous cog railway that climbs Pikes Peak. I haven’t braved the ride yet — heights aren’t exactly my thing (which is ironic since I live in Colorado now — I’m originally from Iowa!). When I painted this, I was still figuring out the art of watercolors, especially how to block off areas to preserve the white of the paper. To create the snow, I ended up using acrylic paints instead. If you’ve ever taken this breathtaking journey up Pikes Peak, this piece might serve as a beautiful memory of that adventure. Let me know if it speaks to you!“ |
