This 28″ x 22″ VERY mixed media canvas was inspired by Jackie and Shadow at the Big Bear Lake in California. I have been following them for the last two years and saw a opportunity to do this painting of them and their two little girls of 2026, Sandy and Luna. This painting is so special for a number of reasons. I am going to enter it in the Arapahoe County Fair to try to win another placed piece. I have placed 1st the last two times I have entered, and I think I have another winner here! I wanted to make this piece even more special. I made it 3D! The nest is made of gouache watercolor, Indian ink, plaster, gel matte, acrylic paint, unraveled rope, pine needles, pinecones, real feathers, dried elderberry, dried, rose petals, and dried lavender. The sky. trees, babies and eagles are purely painted in acrylic paint with very painstakingly technics. There’s one more feather I put in there on the bottom left that I found on my walk that said to me… put me in the painting too! It is all sprayed with a protective fixatif that will safely let you hang it in a “hands off” level in your home without worrying about it decaying. This is a very special piece, and if it wins a reward, I will make sure to copy that award and send it with the picture.

Wise AL

This 20″x16″ VERY mixed media canvas was inspired by a photo that I got from a paid source. Only everything was brown, but I wanted to a study in texture and a color pallet. The pallet was greens and blues. Including the color that looks like black. It is actually a very dark blue. This painting was so incredibly fun! I used gel medium to make the nose and around the eyes come out of the painting, and hymnal pages for the feathers. One of my family members said, you know what would be cool? If the eyes glowed. I said no at first but thought about it and now if you “charge it up with light” the eyes do glow! I also wanted a secret bug off to the upper right side and asked my grandson what kind of bug? He said a stick bug! So there is that there too! But you have to look close. He is camouflaged. Go through the slideshow and see the different aspects of this painting.

This 18″ x 14″ oil painting was done by commission. It was my first all oil painting! Her niece took this picture and she loved it so much that she wanted it in a painting. Since then, she has had a few people over to her house and they have complimented her on the painting. Her insurance agent even said that she should insure it! That’s not a bad idea… why not insure a one of a kind painting? Her other guest said he may have me do a piece for him! I love to hear this stuff and it does my heart good!

They hollowed of a bus that shelters the chickens when they have had enough of weather and people for the day. I tried some different technics on this for the background so the chickens would stand out more.

As someone once told me, if we don’t see any deer in our backyard, we had better check if the apocalypse is happening, because something is wrong! This deer is a Mule Deer and has got his eye on you to see if he needs to run!

This 11″ x 14″ mixed media painted canvas was inspired by the a beautiful little girl who has a love of dandelions. She made bracelets out of them and brought them home for her mother and grandmother. Then as they aged, they would be big poofs that you could blown on the wind and they would float off to far off places. I did the background as an abstract. The dandelions are made with thick acrylic paint to give them texture that you can feel.

This 11″ x 14″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by a thought of a lady who is creeping towards her end years of life. Her husband has passed away a few years ago, and she is moving along in this life. That is all she can say about it, because she still misses her husband terribly, because after all, they had all these plans. Now she is visiting places that she wanted to visit and making decisions on her own. These things give her happiness, but the joy is on stand still until she meets with her husband again when she joins him in heaven some day and falls into Jesus’ arms. Until then… she has come to peace with knowing… It’s ok, not to be okay and grief will last her lifetime, but the Lord will always give her strength when she needs it. As He always has!

This 11″ x 14″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by one of the thousands of over weight people that wish that people could stop teasing and staring at them because they only see the outside and judge them based on that. Sometimes he gets punched, because they think that they can’t feel the same pain as someone who is skinny because of their size. Like it cushions them from feeling anything! But the reality is, they feel everything negative people do to him. If they took the time to know him and really talk to him, they would discover that he is very funny, he notices everything, he is very kind and caring, and he has a beautiful singing voice. If people could get past what they see, he would be the most popular kid in his grade. But people don’t, and it only seems that a few grown up actually see him. But when they protect him, it only makes things worse. His parents say, wait until he gets older. People grow up… but he knows that sometimes they don’t. All he can wish for is that people will see him for who is REALLY is.

This 11″ x 14″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. If you go up some of the walking paths, you will see this perfect frame of the beautiful red rocks that, in this picture, were sprinkled with snow. The twisting tree that you look through, gives it so much depth and character. No doubt there are little creatures that are taking refuge in the shelter under them.

This 11″ x 14″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. This was on the path you take on the road off to the right side as you arrive. There were a whole herd of Big Horn sheep that crossed the road in front of us and did their best to hide themselves behind the trees away from the on lookers. Though used to it, they still would rather eat in peace… for Pete’s sake!

It pictured a few different kinds of mushrooms, leaves, wood, berries, and pine needles. What beautiful colors, patterns, and wonders there are if we would make ourselves a little smaller and look down! This 11″ x 14″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by a beautiful field that was photographed for me to use and I added a few extras, as I usually do! To the post, I added the Red Winged Blackbird. This is one bird, and their are many really, that I have seen in any state. I grew up seeing them in Iowa on the posts of the corn fields and here in the mountains in a field of flowers. This scene must be in the spring in very high altitude because the back mountains still have snow on them. But that didn’t prevent the beautiful spring flowers from saying hello!

This 16″ x 12″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by chickens of course! Since they are one of my favorite birds! You really didn’t think you wouldn’t get unnoticed by them did you! They are always looking at you and find it just as interesting to look at you as you like to look at them! This was also inspired by the thought of a beautiful background, in it’s own way of pine trees and log cabins, a lake, and a green bench. Done with textured plaster , the stencils on the side and top give it a lacy feeling, while the dots and drippy paint on the bench have that abstract look with alcohol ink.

It is quite the experience to have their BLUE tongues like the pellets from your hands. This is the look from that train ride, that looks back at the ranch itself. Lots of fun!

This 16″ x 12″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by a free for use photograph. I would have thought the photographer would have taken a image of him from far away and cropped it! I wouldn’t want to get this colse to one, but you can with this painting. The reflective water shows the mountains, the grasslands, and the moose. I put texture on it as well with plaster. The sky is my artist interpretation full of color in almost a northern lights kind of way. You can see how their colors camouflage them in these grasses. You might have to look twice if you came upon this guy.

This 16″ x 12″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the Terry Bison Ranch. Chickens aren’t the only animals that run free there. This peacock pair had perched themselves on the hitching posts about chest high for this perfect photo and the perfect painting for me! I registered this painting at the Arapahoe County Fair and won 1st prize. The first thing your eyes go to is the male peacock and the female just kind of blends with the rest of the landscape and that is why I called it the protector. God made some of the male animals stand out in color, so would be predators leave the females alone with their babies. I would have loved to be there with their babies sometime.

This 10″ x 8″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the beautiful snow falling on an open field. Who know what was in that field. Maybe a bunch of dirt but now it is covered with white lace. This is the kind of snow that you can hear, because they are nice big flakes. This is a perfect painting that calls for rest. Maybe a favorite place to read the room with a fireplace. It is cozy warm and chilly all at the same time.

This 10″ x 8″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the chickens (my favorite bird subject) hanging out in the quiet of the barn with all that hay around! Who knows, they might even find an egg in there somewhere! Did you know that black is mostly made from blue? Try it yourself sometime. Put lots of water in some black paint and mix it. It will be a shade of blue. But you can make it from different colors too, but it is mostly made of blue. I like how this actually looks like this is a dark barn and they are looking into the light outside.

This 10″ x 8″ acrylic painted canvas was inspired by the Terry Bison Ranch in Cheyenne, WY. If you didn’t know, their tongues are blue. It catches you off guard! You can feed the bison from the train that you go on, and they are trained not to attack because they get fed pellets from the guests at the ranch. It’s really fun to get close to them. I tried to do these bison in a different color pallet and I really like how it came out.

Layer

This 14″ x 11″ acrylic painted canvas (with frame it is 16″ x 13″) was inspired by the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. If you climb up one place in the mountains, you will get this framed by the tree view of the towering rock and the snow covered mountain. The frame is a floating frame. That allows you to see the back as well without it covering it. This is the cool thing about this picture. It is 3D in the wood pieces with plaster that is then painted by Acrylic paint and varnished to keep it in place and chip free, but very touchable with care. You can feel the texture of the winding wood! This was one of my first 3D textured art. It is very special to me.

Nesting

This 14″ x 11″ acrylic painted canvas (with frame it is 16″ x 13″) was inspired by the some birds, including these Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, that bring whatever they find to build their nests. The story that I have made with this painting is that they live in a tree by a dry cleaner. This is what they have found while scavenging the back alley by their shop. They even found a shiny gold button that shows off their beautiful nest amongst the eggs they just laid. Another 3D art that I have taken a liking to, I think mostly because I love that my grandson enjoys these so much. It’s fun to touch the art. This has been varnish and glued with a glue that will make it stay put!

Port’s Landing

This 14″ x 11″ acrylic painted canvas (with frame it is 16″ x 13″) was inspired by a picture that a kind lady shared with our painting group to pint if we wanted. I wanted! It is located in Eidfjord, located along the Hardangerfjord in Norway. Can you imagine living here in this quaint village over looking the bay, nestled in the mountains? I used a lot of 3D texture in this painting. I used tissue paper, and a song page. It is art you can feel! I hope you enjoy it!
